Overview
CAKE's goal was to create a small business kiosk solution to better enhance the dining experience that would reduce customer wait times, enable order customization, and improve accuracy. The system needed to be designed as a white-label solution that could work for any type of customer with varying a range of assets and content.
The Problem
CAKE had an existing kiosk solution but found it unsatisfactory due to poor usability—it was simply an adaptation of their online ordering website, which wasn’t optimized for touchscreens. This resulted in a subpar guest experience and failed to provide operators with enough incentive to invest in the product. Given the needs of their mid-market clientele, it was essential to design a solution requiring minimal configuration and management, enabling all sizes of business to effectively utilize the system.
THE PROCESS
• Collaborated with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of requirements, and understanding of current pain points.
• Analyzed the app’s goals, customer profiles, and assessed the existing user experience.
• Defined the core functionality and features needed, ensuring alignment with the broader product ecosystem and anticipation of future growth.
• Designed wireframes and prototypes that seamlessly aligned with and integrated the company's new interface framework and design system.
• Developed an elegant white-label solution enabling customers to effortlessly configure their devices to match their brand and restaurant ambiance.
The Outcome
The design refresh, enhanced UX, and introduction of a a new re-ordering feature creates a more intuitive and user-friendly restaurant ordering experience.
The re-ordering feature allows customers to easily identify themselves at the kiosk, view past order history, and quickly reorder, streamlining the checkout process. This posed a unique challenge due to the public nature of kiosks, requiring a secure and seamless login system that protected customer data while preventing overlap with new users.
The updated design also empowered the sales team to impress potential clients and offer an elevated experience for existing customers, to drive greater adoption and engagement.
